2008 the season starts

Well the season has started early this year as we have left Morlaix and headed for Guernsey to fuel up and see Sal's mum with all the usual stores. The price in france at the garages for diesel is now €1.32 per lit and in Guernsey it is £0.64 per lit so quite a saving on 500 litres. We left Morlaix at 06:00 UTC at the lock and were at Chateau Taureau an hour later in sunshine and a little mist but no wind at all. we then put Feels Good on a heading of 050 degs and spent the next 14 hrs at an average of 5.4 knots on the way to Guernsey set the pilot and dont touch the wheel for 74 miles as its straight up. We picked up a nice f3 ESE so set all sail and at one point at slack water just off the Roche Douvres we were doing 6.2 knots, not bad for a boat with an all up weight of 15 tons. We arrived at St Martins point to the sound of loud music which we found out was a pop festival being held 3 miles from the marina. Some friends who came down from Alderney said they could hear it 18 miles of the north coast of Guernsey. It finished at 20:00hrs so at least we could sleep. We found the Victoria marina almost empty as it is at this time of year and decided to stay for 8 days as you only pay for 6. Discounting July and august you get 4 days for the price of 3 so at £18.00 per night that saves a bit. Well our next stop will be Diellete for a couple of days so will report on this port the next chance we have for the net. Happy sailing to you all.
